Purple Sunday: Richard and Mike
Richard told Mike to meet him at 3pm right behind the old barnyard. That had been their meeting spot since they were kids. But when he pulled up, five minutes late, he is surprised to see that Mike hasn’t made it yet. “Where could he be?” Richard asks himself. Impatiently, he grabs his phone and begins to dial, but just as he does, it rings and startles him.
“Mike, where the hell are you? I’ve here waiting, come on!”
Richard waits for a reply but all that he can hear is the faint sound of a struggle.
“Mike, Mike, are you okay…where are you buddy?”
Richard waits again holding the phone firmly against his ear. His heart is pounding out of his chest as he tries his best to distinguish the sounds. Then suddenly, after what seemed like a lifetime, it’s silent and he can hear loud breathing on the other end of the phone.
“Mike, are you okay, where are you?”
“Sorry, Mike won’t be making his appointment today.”
“Who is this, you son of a bitch, if you hurt him, I swear….”
“Don’t worry Richard, you two will be together shortly. Maybe you should be more careful of who you cross or perhaps it’s not a good idea to only have two meet up spots. I am amazed at how easy it was to find you. I know the hit was Mike’s idea so I won’t make you suffer like I did him. Just turn around slowly and accept your fate.”
